• Do you enjoy conversations around life-changing and mind-expanding books?
  • Are you courageous enough to wrestle with ideas that challenge your deepest assumptions?
  • Are you willing to experience the discomfort of finding out that the world may not be the way you thought it was?

If your answer is “yes,” you may want to join my weekly book club meetings on Zoom (Sundays, 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM, Central Time).

On May 8, we’ll start discussing a new book, titled Another End of the World is Possible. This will be followed by Mutual Aid: The Other Law of the Jungle.

Please read the guidelines before signing up.

Book Club Guidelines

All participants, including the host, agree to abide by the following guidelines:

  1. Whenever possible, I will contribute to the book club’s purpose.
  2. I will not criticize without first achieving a reasonably good understanding.
  3. If I am not sure what an author meant, I will seek the opinion of other participants.
  4. If I am not sure what another participant meant, I will ask that participant for clarification. If I am still not sure, I will try paraphrasing the other person’s comment in order to find out whether I have understood correctly.
  5. I will focus on receiving the meaning that an author or speaker is trying to convey, rather than just their words.
  6. When I disagree with an author or a speaker, I will avoid expressing that disagreement disputatiously or contentiously.
  7. I will make myself aware of the emotions that a particular topic tends to trigger in me.
  8. While reading or listening, I will remain mindful of the moment-to-moment changes in my own emotional state.
  9. I will work on uncovering my own assumptions, particularly those that may be getting in the way of my learning.
  10. When trying to understand a viewpoint with which I tend to disagree, I will make a sincere attempt to remain impartial; this may require me to read or listen with the intention of agreeing.
