RETHINKING EDUCATION
More and more people are coming to understand that humanity is living through a time of ecological breakdowns and societal disruptions that will only intensify in the coming years and decades. Yet, our most important institutions are still functioning on the assumption that the future will be just like the past. As a result, formal education is now increasingly out of step with the state of the world and
the direction in which it is headed, and this is creating a massive and growing gap between what students need to learn and what they are being taught. For educators, such a gap represents a spiritual and moral crisis, for it puts into question the meaning of their lives and the value of their work.
This online workshop is designed primarily for schoolteachers and college professors, but it will also benefit anyone associated with formal education in any capacity. The workshop consists of a 45-minute presentation on the state of the world and the responsibility of educators, followed by an hour long discussion.
